Undocumented Students - First-Year Students

Since its founding, AU has been a place that welcomes students and faculty from around the world and has dedicated itself to advancing international service. Consistent with these inclusive values, students who are undocumented (with or without DACA) are welcome to apply to AU.

Citizenship is not, and has never been, a condition for admission to American University. All candidates for admission are evaluated on the basis of their academic strength and fit with the university.

Scholarship funds are available for qualified students and are offered on the basis of academic merit. These awards range in value from $6,000 to $20,000 and no separate application is required.

Additional scholarship funds are offered to students who qualify for admission to the University Honors Program (an additional $10,000) and the Frederick Douglass Distinguished Scholars Program (full tuition, room, and board). Separate applications are required for these programs.
