Commonly called "The Malt Shop," the Dancing Crab is located in Tenleytown at 4615 Wisconsin Avenue. Its hours are



  • Monday -Thursday, 4 p.m. - 11p.m., full menu; beverage service to 1:30 a.m.

  • Friday & Saturday 4 p.m. - 11 p.m. full menu; beverage service to 2:30 a.m.

  • Sunday 12 p.m. - 10 p.m. full menu; beverage service to 1a.m.


The Dancing Crab features a small outdoor patio where drinks can be enjoyed in fair weather. Live music (usually a guitar player) is featured on select nights to entertain the small crowd, which usually consists of AU undergrads and locals, with American classic rock.


While not typically known by AU students by its food, the establishment offers inexpensive seafood, including hard-shell Maryland crabs with Old Bay seasoning.
