ASSESSMENT
THE FIVE INITIAL ASSIGNMENTS: You will be graded on the quality of both the analysis and comments you post in response to each of these short assignments, as well as your oral presentation in class. Each of the assignments will count 5 points (or 5% of your total grade). Total: 25 points.
The assignments are graded on the following 5 point scale: A 5; A- 4.75; B+ 4.5; B 4.25; B- 4; C+ 3.75; C 3.5; C- 3.25; D 3; F below 3.
THE BIBLIOGRAPHICAL ESSAY: will count 20 points.
The Primary Sources Essay: will count 15 points.
THE PROSPECTUS: The Prospectus, or research proposal, will count for 30 points toward your final grade for the semester; your Power Point presentation, based on the prospectus, will count 10 points.
TIMELINESS: To receive full credit, all assignments must be turned in on the assigned day. The grade for assignments that are posted late will be lowered one grade for each day they are late.
PARTICIPATION: An additional 10 points (bringing your possible total to 110 points) may be earned through active participation, as measured not only by attendance (which is taken for granted), but by the frequency and quality of your contributions both on line and in real time class discussion.
EXCUSED ABSENCES: Things happen. We fall ill, face family crises, become distressed for all kinds of reasons. Sometimes you must miss class or submit an assignment late. I will make every effort to accommodate you if something in your life goes awry. However, I can only accept excuses that are accompanied by a note from a physician, counselor and/or your academic advisor.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY: Contributions to
the course should be
clearly written and logically argued. Most importantly, they must
represent your work and your work alone. If you draw ideas and important
information from a source, you must identify that source. If you
use language that is not your own, it must be placed in quotes and its
source identified. Failure to do so, ,
is one of the most serious violations of the
Academic
Integrity Code.
