FAQs

What is my AU CareerWeb profile used for?
The profile section allows you to store information on your academic interests and achievements. You can also view a summary of your recent activity in the AU CareerWeb system, and manage your account settings, including your password and privacy settings. If you choose to receive emails, the Career Center can send you updates on events and opportunities that fit with your academic profile. You will also receive the Career Center’s weekly “Hot Jobs & Internships” bulletin.

I tried to search for a job and my search came up blank – why?
If your initial search does not produce a desired result, try altering your search criteria. Think about searching all industries if your initial search limited the industries, and be sure to read through all of the job function options to see if others might fit. New jobs and internships are added each day, so the results of your search could be different in a matter of hours!

Why would I want to create a job search agent?
Job search agents will alert you when there are new jobs posted to the system that meet specific criteria that you have set. You can have updates sent to you as often as every day, week, etc. To set up a search agent, click on the “Jobs” tab and then on “Advanced Search.” Once you have created a search agent, you can enable it to run on a schedule by clicking on “Search Agents” in the Jobs section.

How do I submit an application for a position I saw in AU CareerWeb?
When you click on the position title from the list of search results, you should see a box on the right side of the position description page. In order to submit your application materials, you must have your resume (and cover letter if requested) already uploaded into the system. Note that an employer can see the file name of the resume you submit, so it is a good idea to include your name in the file name.

When I attempt to submit a resume, the system allows me to include “note” - who will see this note?
The employer to whom you are sending an application can see this note, so you may cut and paste your cover letter into this box, or leave it blank if your cover letter is already included in the attachments you are sending.

I found a job I am interested in, but it says I am not qualified to apply - why?
Some employers may choose to “screen” applicants based on specific quantitative criteria such as major, graduation date, or GPA. If you do not meet the qualifications the employer is looking for, you will not be able to apply.

How do I register to attend the Job & Internship Fair and see which employers are attending?
From your AU CareerWeb homepage, click “events”on the navigation bar at the top of the page. From there, click on the Job & Internship Fair and follow the instructions.

How do I upload my resume and cover letter?
From your AU CareerWeb homepage, click on “documents” on the navigation bar at the top of the page. Click on “Add New.” Give the document a unique name to distinguish it from other documents that you may upload. (Keep in mind that employers can see the titles of your documents as well.) Indicate the document type (resume, cover letter, other) and find the file by clicking “Browse.” Then click “Submit.” Documents are converted into PDF files by AU CareerWeb, so it may take several minutes before it is available for you to forward to employers.
