There are hundreds of film and TV production companies in the major centers of Washington, New York City, Hollywood and beyond. Below is only a small sampling of companies. Consult the Hollywood Creative Directory, below, for an expansive directory:

DC Area:

  • Atlantic Television is a production services firm with offices in DC, NY, Chicago, Boston, Miami, and San Francisco. The company serves companies such as the BBC, ABC, the Discovery Networks, NBC, and the National Geographic Channel with documentaries, commercials and promos.   • Brainbox TV Silver Spring, MD
  • Discovery Networks Based in Silver Spring, MD, Discovery encompasses 14 cable networks such as Discovery Channel, Discovery Health, Animal Planet, TLC, and Travel Channel. Paid summer internships are offered to undergraduate and graduate students. Go here for job/internship information.
  • Henninger Media Services - Arlington, VA offers internships in the areas of documentary research, script and proposal writing, program development, program marketing, and field production, as well as design, audio, online and off-line editing.
  • MVI Post Falls Church/Seven Corners, VA
  • National Geographic Internship Programs
  • STORY HOUSE Productions is an international film and television production company based in Washington, DC and Munich, Germany. Applicants for internships may send resume and cover letter to internships@storyhousepro.com.
  • Yellow Cat Productions Located on Capitol Hill, Yellow Cat is a film and video company that produces documentaries, PSAs, corporate communications, PR, broadcast news and government programs. The staff is composed of multilingual professionals who have worked all over the world.
  • York Zimmerman Inc. is an independent film and video production company located in Washington, D.C. It produces social documentaries and hires interns.

New York:

  • Atlantic Television(See Washington DC summary)
  • Bandwidth Digital (E-Mail: bandwidthdigital@mindspring.com) This production company offers internships to college students. Corporate clients include Morgan Stanley, Price Waterhouse, American Express, Met Life, IBM, AT&T, and Pfizer.
  • Beyond Our Reality is a full-time production company that works on projects varying from news gathering, music videos, commercials, PSAs, to industrial/corporate shots, feature films, and shorts. Clients include MTV Network, Lifetime TV, HBO, ABC Sports, The Sundance Channel, MSNBC, McDonald’s, NYNEX, Volkswagen. BOR offers internships.
  • City Lights Production City Lights Productions is the division of City Lights Media Group that produces commercials, music videos, concert films and corporate films and videos.

  • MTV Networks Headquartered on Broadway in New York City, MTV reaches 1 billion people worldwide through more than 20 affiliate cable stations such as VH-1, Comedy Central, Nick at Nite, Uno, and Nickelodeon.   • New Line Cinema Owned by Time Warner, New To apply for internships at New Line’s New York office, undergraduates may fax cover letter and resume to (212) 649-4640 or e-mail to internshipny@newline.com. No production internships are available in NY.
  • Production 920 Production 920 is a small New York-based film and video production services and post-production company that produces and directs commercials, music videos, features and long form shows. 920 usually hires unpaid summer interns who serve as production assistants. Clients includes HBO, NBC, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, MTV, VH1, Paramount Pictures, ABC Entertainment, NFL Films, Sony, and BBC.
  • Time Warner Time Warner offers credit-only internships. Search for internships (or jobs) on their Web site for these companies: Time Warner Corporate, America Online, DC Comics, HBO, New Line Cinema, Time Inc. Time Warner Cable, Turner Broadcasting, Warner Bros. Entertainment, The WB TV Network, and Warner Music Group.
  • Twentieth Century Fox Fox offers paid and for-credit internships for undergraduate and graduate students with majors related to entertainment and/or business.

California:

  • Atlantic Television (See DC summary)
  • CinePartners Entertainment is a film production company that develops, finances, and produces films “outside the Hollywood system.” Based in Los Angeles, CinePartners helps finance and produce European art house and independent films. Unpaid internships are available in LA. Apply to production@cinepartners.net.
  • E! Networks E!'s Corporate World Headquarters is in the Miracle Mile neighborhood of Los Angeles, CA. E! also has production and administration offices in New York, NY, Chicago, IL, and Windsor, CT. They offer full- and part-time internships to college students.
  • 1171 Production Group
  • New Line Cinema Owned by Time Warner, New Line produces and distributes major motion picture features, TV and cable movies, and TV series. To apply for credit-bearing internships in Los Angeles, undergraduate students may e-mail their cover letter and resume to InternshipLA@NewLine.com.
  • Paramount is a Viacom-owned company that produces major motion pictures, television, and home entertainment releases. Provides job listings and paid internships. Fax cover letter and resume to (323) 862-1134 or mail to their Hollywood office.
  • Sony Pictures Entertainment With offices in Los Angeles, New York City, and Chicago, Sony produces TV and cable movies, TV series, and feature films, and owns Columbia Pictures. For information on internships, go here.
  • Universal City Studios Inc. now partnered with NBC, produces and markets entertainment, news and sports programming, and location-based entertainment experiences in the U.S. and abroad. They also operate theme parks and resorts. Jobs and internships can also be found on the NBC/GE career site.
