Here is a sample of associations serving high tech professionals:

KOGOD Clubs/Annual Events

Alpha Kappa Psi: Founded in 1904, Alpha Kappa Psi (AKPSi) is a co-ed, professional business fraternity. The fraternity strives to “develop well-trained, ethical, skilled, resourceful, experienced business leaders”. For twenty years, Kogod’s Lambda Nu chapter has been dedicated to fulfilling this mission by providing its members an essential element to complement what they learn in the classroom: experience. Based on a solid foundation of education and social programs, presentations, community service and extensive group work, members learn to develop and utilize skills essential not only in today’s business world, but also in everyday life. For more information, visit the Alpha Kappa Psi website.

American Marketing Association: The Kogod Chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) brings together students who are interested in pursuing a career in the field of marketing. The AMA brings top marketing executives to campus to discuss important issues and developments in the field. The organization also co-sponsors the annual AMA Career Forum with local universities. Last spring, over 40 marketing professionals attended the Forum to share their experiences and network with students.

Investment Club @ Kogod: Founded in the spring of 2002, the Investment Club @ Kogod (IC@K) brings together students who are interested in the field of finance. Members partake in investing real dollars donated by the Kogod School of Business. All students, regardless of investment knowledge, are encouraged to join. For information about meetings, or to join the club, e-mail auinvestment@yahoo.com or visit the Investment Club @ Kogod website.

Kogod Case Competition: Each year, the Kogod School of Business hosts the Kogod Case Competition, a two-day competition in which student teams present solutions for some of today's toughest business problems to a distinguished panel of alumni and business leaders. It is an excellent opportunity for students to sharpen their communication skills, presentation style, and problem-solving techniques, as well as network with business professionals. The competition is judged by leaders of such organizations as AOL, Deloitte & Touche, ENC Marketing, Marriott, PricewaterhouseCoopers and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Kogod Consulting Group: The Kogod Consulting Group (KCG) strives to identify and solve strategic problems for small and medium-sized businesses in the Washington, D.C. area. KCG accept projects that are research-based, small team focused, travel-light and can be completed within one semester. The group values action and activity that translate into business results. The group is led by Kogod graduate students; undergraduates have the opportunity to meet with clients and work on projects as business analysts. Students learn the fundamentals of consulting practice and have the chance to liaison with consulting professionals from local firms. For more information, e-mail kogodconsulting@american.edu.

Kogod Peer Mentors: Launched in the spring of 2002, the Kogod Peer Mentor Group offers students the opportunity to learn, develop and exercise leadership and facilitation skills that will enable them to be competent “helpers” to first-year Kogod students. Each Kogod Peer Mentor is assigned two to three first-year students, or “mentees”. Peer Mentors answer mentees’ questions about classes and campus life, keep them posted on important events and happenings at Kogod and assist them with their overall transition to college life. Peer Mentors also assist with Kogod student programming initiatives and admissions activities. The group participates in a team building and training seminar at Hemlock Overlook ropes course in the fall. For more information, email the Peer Mentor Coordinators at KSBPeer@american.edu.

Kogod Undergraduate Networking Reception: This annual networking reception brings together Kogod undergraduates with alumni and local employers seeking candidates for their internship, full-time and part-time positions. The event is traditionally held in October.

Undergraduate Business Association: The Undergraduate Business Association (UBA) serves as the umbrella organization for all Kogod undergraduate clubs and organizations.
