Premed Advising Services

The American University Career Center is here to help to prepare students enrolled in AU's premedical and other professional healthcare programs. We offer the following services:

Mock-Interviewing. Use the Career Center 's virtual mock-interviewing program, OptimalResume Interview, to conduct your mock interview.

  • You will need to access an internet connection with a webcam. To conduct your interview, you may schedule a time to use a webcam in the Career Center, you may use your home computer with a webcam, or you may use the kiosk set up on the computer in the premed lab in Beeghly 207.
  • When logged in to OptimalResume, go to the SKILLS tab to conduct your interview
  • Select “Build Your Own Interview”, then scroll to select Premed questions
  • After you have conducted your interview, schedule an appointment with Sue Gordon, Premed Career Advisor, to review your interview.
  • Be sure to e-mail your mock interview link to Sue Gordon, a minimum of two business days prior to your appointment

Review the final draft of your AMCAS personal statement. The Writing Center , located in Battelle-Tompkins 228, 202-885-2991, will help you to organize your thoughts and create your draft. When this is complete, you may schedule an appointment with Sue Gordon in the Career Center for a review of your statement's content.

Review your résumé. Create your résumé using our online résumé builder, OptimalResume, and then schedule an appointment with Sue Gordon to review your resume. For tips on how to write a resume, click here.
