The minimum requirements for a three credit internship are that it be 12 weeks in duration, and 15 - 16 hours per week. Undergraduates need a 2.0 and graduate students need a 3.0 to register. Internship Guidelines for School of Communication Students may only do one internship for credit.
The School of Communication revised internship for credit course offerings effective with the Fall 2007 semester. As of Fall 2007 senior-level SOC students that meet the COMM-491 prerequisites are eligible to earn credit for their internship. This change has eliminated COMM-391 as an internship credit option for students.
Internship Guidelines for School of Public Affairs: Students in the Leadership Program are required to do a 6 credit internship their junior year. CLEG students are required to do a 6 credit internship. Undergraduate internships strongly recommend for the five year combined BA/MPP program. No more than 6 internship credits for a BA in Political Science.
Internship Guidelines for School of International Service: While not required, internships are strongly recommended at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Graduate students have a choice between three options 1) a lengthy thesis, 2) two substantial research papers, or 3) one substantial research paper and an internship. For SIS graduates to officially register their internship for credit they should speak to their academic advisor.
Internship Guidelines for Kogod School of Business: Students may do for-credit internships starting in their junior year, and may earn up to 12 credits through internships.
