Graduate Certificate in Applied Microeconomics
The Department of Economics at American University offers a certificate
program in Applied Microeconomics for those individuals seeking
to supplement their education with a graduate level certificate.
A graduate certificate program allows you to pursue your specific
career needs with a schedule that complements your work day. Most
classes are offered in the evening and on weekends. Certificate
credits can usually be transferred into graduate degree programs.
Curriculum and Degree Requirements
- 18 credit hours of approved graduate work;
- course work includes nine credit hours of core requirements and nine credit
hours of electives (prerequisite credit does not count towards the certificate);
- all courses must be taken for grades (the pass/fail option is not permitted).
Admissions Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college;
- Prior course work or experience equivalent to ECON-300 Intermediate Microeconomics,
ECON-301 Intermediate Macroeconomics, MATH-211 Applied Calculus, and STAT-202
Basic Statistics
- a well-written Statement of Purpose. Students entering the program without
the appropriate background will be expected to take these courses as prerequisites.
- TOEFL score of 600 paper / 250 computer for all international students
whose first language is not English.
