Joan Tasker Grimbert, Professor of French and Chair of
the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the Catholic University of America, will deliver an illustrated talk on "Romantic(Mis)readings of the Medieval Legend of Tristan and Iseult: Richard Wagner, Joseph Bédier, and Denis de Rougemont," showing how the modern conception of the medieval legend has been changed by these 19th-20th
figures, despite their claims to have captured the essence of the medieval legend. Questions & refreshments to follow.
