Christina Pondell

Professorial Lecturer Department of Environmental Science

Dr. Pondell is a marine scientist with a focus on organic chemistry. After earning her bachelor’s degree in marine science from Texas A&M University at Galveston, she studied impacts of climate and humans on the transport of organic carbon and sediments in rivers. She earned her Ph.D. from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science with a focus in marine science and organic geochemistry. Dr. Pondell is interested in the effect of human activities on watershed health, aquatic ecology, and water quality. Her research focuses on urban rivers and analyzes the transport and fate of contaminants including gold nanoparticles and microplastics through these waterways to better understand the impacts of these contaminants on our water resources.
