TEDx Returns to AU; Three SOC Students Featured

By Brianna Williams

SOC TEDxAmericanUniversity

TEDx is back at American University (AU) for the third year in a row Saturday, February 27 at Katzen Arts Center.

The lineup includes AU students, faculty and alumni; three of the featured speakers are affiliated with the School of Communication: Kara Andrade, Jordan Coleman and Sarah Preston.

Andrade is a PhD student who has more than ten years of experience as a bilingual journalist working in the United States and Latin America. Andrade will also be speaking at SXSW March 13 when she will be honored with the Dewey Award for HablaCentro.com, a network of regional citizen information websites in Latin America that she founded.

Jordan Coleman is a third year film and media arts student in SOC, as well as a spoken word artist. Coleman’s accomplishments include having directed two award-winning films by the age of 17, and voicing the cartoon character of Tyrone the Moose on Nickelodeon’s The Backyardigans.

Sarah Preston is a senior dual degree student studying public relations in SOC, and CLEG in the School of Public Affairs. Preston is the content manager at the Space Frontier Foundation and communications director for the Alliance for Space Development. With her passion for space exploration, Preston started the American University chapter of Students for the Exploration and Development of Space.
