With support from CLALS, AU Communications professor Bill Gentile taught backpack journalism to a group of Cuban students in Havana, and organized a competition for the documentaries that the students produced in class. CLALS hosted the two winning Cuban documentary filmmakers from the Instituto Superior de Arte, María Elisa Pérez Leal and Duniesky Cantón Fernández, the week of September 17, 2012 to share their compelling documentary on housing conditions in Havana. Their week-long stay included class visits and film screenings at American University, Norfolk State University, the University of Maryland, College Park and the College of William and Mary. The documentary is available below. Please note it is broken into two parts: the first explores how people perceive living within the solar and the second clip captures the reactions of those featured in the film after viewing the documentary themselves.
