Environmental Health

Administering environmental, health, and safety programs to protect the American University community.

What We Do

The Office of Environmental Health & Safety administers environmental, health, and safety needs for American University and assists the campus in monitoring compliance with federal and local laws and regulations.

This office oversees the use of chemical and hazardous materials. More information can be found on the Chemical and Hazardous Materials.

The Chemical Hygiene Plan establishes policy, responsibilities, and procedures to ensure the safe use of hazardous chemicals within the laboratories on campus.

The office also monitors the use of radioactive and biological materials. More information can be found on the Radioactive and Biological Materials page.

Aerial Lift Program

Aerial lifts can present a number of different hazards depending on the environment in which they are used and their application of use. Training is a key element in American University's Aerial Lift Program. Each operator of aerial lifts at American University must be trained by a certified aerial lift trainer.
