EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

This Emergency Preparedness site and the links found below, contain information from the university’s crisis management and business continuity plans. A work group made up of representatives from a cross-section of university departments meets every three weeks to work on updating and adding to the University’s documented emergency-related plans. On an annual basis the plans are tested and fine-tuned using regular planning exercises. A group that includes AU’s president, provost, vice presidents, and the university’s emergency response team, work with government safety officials and emergency planning consultants to develop and carry out tabletop exercises. These exercises provide the opportunity to examine the existing decision-making and communication processes.

We are also extremely fortunate to have over 200 full-time faculty and staff volunteers who are trained annually on their designated emergency assistance team’s responsibilities.

The links below cover topics including; evacuation procedures, emergency team training documents, procedures for weather-related and other emergencies and a link to sign up for emergency text alerts through the Alert DC notification system. Not posted as public information are the parts of the plans containing evacuation sites, telephone trees, risk analyses, and individual department evacuation plans that include floor plans of the buildings in which the departments are located.

We will continue to hone our plans in an effort to respond to as many eventualities as possible.
