  IN RESIDENCE / DIRECTOR OF THE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM (TEMPORARY)

The Department of Government in the School of Public Affairs at American University invites applications for the Director of the School of Public Affairs Leadership Program. The Leadership Program trains students to develop the skills and the commitment to make a positive difference in their communities and the world, to broaden understanding of the nature of American politics through experiencing first-hand how policy is developed and implemented, and to prepare for participation in all aspects of public service by fostering leadership, teamwork, negotiating, communications, critical thinking and organizational skills. The Leadership Program is a four-year, 15 credit course of study that leads to a university-recognized certificate in Advanced Leadership Studies. This is a non-tenure track faculty in residence position with some administrative responsibilities. Applicants should have leadership experience and PhD or other terminal degree. The appointment begins Fall 2008.

  AMERICAN POLITICS - 2 POSITIONS
(TEMPORARY)

The Department of Government in the School of Public Affairs at American University invites applications for two one-year, non tenure track positions at the Assistant Professor level in American Politics. Candidates will be expected to teach introductory United States politics courses as well as more advanced undergraduate courses in American Politics and methods. Opportunities to teach graduate courses will depend on subfield and experience. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated teaching ability and those with a PhD by August 2008. The position begins fall 2008.

Justice, Law and Society
 

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
(TEMPORARY)
The Department of Justice, Law and Society at American University is seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of assistant professor to teach Introduction to Law and other courses in law and society beginning in the fall of 2008. This is a one-year position. J.D. or Ph.D. in a relevant discipline required; interdisciplinary applicants are especially welcome. Teaching experience is highly desirable. Teaching load: three courses per semester.
