- Richard (Dick) M. Durand joined the Kogod School of Business in July 2005 as the Robert and Arlene Kogod Dean. A scholar with expertise in marketing research and consumer analysis for decision making, he is widely published in marketing, psychology, and statistics journals. Prior to his appointment at American University, Dr. Durand served for six years as the Herbert Ehlers Dean of the College of Business and Economics at Lehigh University and was a professor and chair of the faculty of marketing at the University of Maryland for 12 years prior to that. Since joining American University, he has served on various business and academic boards including the Executive Board of the Greater Washington Initiative, the Professional Standards Committee of the Graduate Management Admission Council, and for the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business the Maintenance of Accreditation and Accreditation Quality Committees.

Additional Information: Richard Durand, whose fields of expertise are marketing research and consumer analysis for decision making, was named dean of the Kogod School of Business in July 2005.Since coming to AU, Durand has served on various business and academic boards, including the Executive Board of the Greater Washington Initiative, the Professional Standards Committee of the Graduate Management Admission Council, and the Maintenance of Accreditation and Accreditation Quality Committees of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Under Durand's stewardship, Kogod is reshaping itself in the image of a modern business entity.Durand's focus at Kogod is on creating and implementing interdisciplinary academic programs and initiatives, such as the LLM/MBA program developed with the Washington College of Law and the MBA/MA program in International Service. Other initiatives include a BS in business and foreign language and culture, and a joint BS/BA in business and international service. He served six years as dean at Lehigh University, in Bethlehem, Pa., where he also taught management and marketing. Durand also has years of practical experience working with the business community. He has conducted executive education sessions with companies and associations such as Marriott, Wausau Metals, Safeway, the National Association of Federal Credit Unions, and the Maryland State Government Association. In addition, he has done consulting work for the Alabama Supreme Court, the Maryland State Lottery, Frito Lay Co., and Safeway, among others.
