Kogod School of Business International Management Practices Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Find the answers you are looking for about the International Management Practices course at Kogod.

Q. What are the requirements to participate?

A. Students must have sophomore standing (minimum of 30 credit hours) in order to participate. Undergraduate students from any AU school (including KSB, SIS, CAS, SOC, and SPA), are eligible to enroll.

Q. How will I be evaluated and graded?

A. Academic performance will be evaluated on the basis of the assignments as outlined in the course syllabus, which have previously included readings, quizzes, and other assignments as discussed in the on-campus class meetings, class attendance, participation and professionalism during the company site visits, and a summary paper of the experience due upon return from the travel portion of the course.

Q. How much does it cost to participate?

A. Estimated costs of each International Management Practices course include normal AU tuition plus international airfare and a program fee as specified on the course webpage.  The program fee generally includes lodging, some meals, and local transportation as part of the program. Actual costs vary depending upon variations in expenses in the individual countries and variations in the value of the US dollar compared to the value of the local currency. Actual costs for each program are firmly established 30 - 60 days before departure.

Q. Is the flight included in the program fee?

A. No, the flight is not included in the program fee. This allows students to take advantage of early registration dates and book flights as early as possible to lock in the best prices. This also provides students the flexibility to take advantage of any frequent flyer mile programs or other airline discounts, and travel on their own in the region before or after the program.

Q. How can I use the credits in my degree program?

A. Kogod students will be able to use this 2 or 3 credit hour course in the Foreign Language Cross-cultural area or as a Free Elective. Non-KSB students should speak with their Academic Advisor to validate how the credits can be used.  Students wishing to complete an International Business minor can apply the course towards their requirements if they register for the 3 credit section of the course.
