Cathedral Commons

On October 6, a large group of faculty and students from the MS in Real Estate program and from Kogod real estate classes toured the newly completed Cathedral Commons development. The newly completed multi-use project is located near American University – in the Cathedral Heights neighborhood of Washington, DC.

Juliana Thomas, property manager, and Sunny Shih, assistant property manager, of the developer The Bozzuto Group, pointed out development challenges faced, since the project was first planned in 2003 and finally completed in spring 2015.

Cathedral Commons is a $130 million project with 145 luxury apartment homes and 128,000 square feet of retail space, including a Giant Supermarket, CVS Drugstore and a Starbucks. The students observed the project's environmentally sustainable features as part of its application for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.

The event is one of a series of property site tours and on-campus class speaker engagements hosted by the MS in Real Estate program to highlight industry best practices to Kogod students.
