The correspondence 1942 to 1961 (bulk 1946-1954) in this series relates to Laura Wood Roper’s biography of Frederick Law Olmsted. The bulk of the correspondence is between Roper and Frederick Law Olmsted Jr., his wife, Sarah Sharples Olmsted, and Stella D. Obst, Frederick Law Olmsted Jr.’s secretary. The remaining letters 1954-1970 (bulk 1956-1969) document Roper’s interactions with other researchers (including Charles McLaughlin and Albert Fein), academic institutions, and various publishers including Johns Hopkins University Press. This series is divided into two subseries. The correspondence is arranged in chronological order while the other files are arranged alphabetically by subject and/or document type.
