More than 1,300 Eagles and their 3,495 guests set a new attendance record during AU’s Family Weekend, October 13–15.

“As a parent, I understand how important it is to feel like your child is in a place where they are given the tools to thrive and to be set on a path for success,” President Sylvia Burwell said during the Saturday morning forum with families. “Our students are the changemakers that the world needs today, which means we must support, challenge, and empower them to be their best selves.”

The weekend featured more than 40 events: academic lectures, musical performances, worship services, athletic events, art exhibitions, campus tours, and a fall festival. Through event proceeds and donations, AU raised $5,580 for the Market, the food pantry for students.

“So many families made it a reunion weekend of sorts, inviting grandparents, aunts, uncles, and family friends to attend,” said Karyn Cassella, director of new student and family programs. “It was extra special to see just how excited our students were to soak up the attention and affection of their supporters.”
