I have appointed WCL professor and associate dean Mary L. Clark as interim dean of academic affairs and senior vice provost. This appointment is for an indefinite period, while Dean of Academic Affairs and Senior Vice Provost Phyllis Peres is on short-term leave. In the interim, Mary Clark will fulfill the extent of the position’s duties, which include managing faculty actions, contracts, recognition, awards, and development; serving as an advisor to the provost; and overseeing Study Abroad, the Career Center, and the Center for Teaching, Research & Learning.
Mary Clark’s tenure at AU and legal background will allow her to “hit the ground running.” Following academic appointments at Yale Law School and Georgetown University, Clark began her AU career as a visiting professor in 2002 at WCL. Since then, she was appointed assistant professor and subsequently promoted to associate professor and then professor. As WCL’s associate dean for faculty and academic affairs, Clark is responsible for overseeing faculty actions and the curriculum.
We are very fortunate to have Mary Clark assist us at this time. Please join me in welcoming her to the Office of the Provost.
