Applied Social Psychology (3) Social psychology is the scientific study of individuals in social situations. Research areas include attitudes, stereotyping, aggression, relationships, and attribution. Although social psychologists tend to focus on theory development, many of the theories have been put into practice or have potential for such real world application. In this course students learn how widespread the applications of social psychology are, including to education, business, the legal system, healthcare, and the media and read original research by both classic and contemporary social psychologists. Lectures are balanced by group discussions of the empirical articles.

Metamemory (3) Metamemory is knowing about the contents and workings of one's own memory and is crucial to learning and managing one's cognitive resources. This seminar explores such metamemory judgments as tip-of-the-tongue states, feeling of knowing, judgments of learning, and ease of learning in different domains. The class then focuses on cutting-edge research on this topic in more specialized cases such as nonverbal memory and performance, in educational settings, in the aging population, and research on the neurological underpinnings of this faculty.
