In The Secret Life of Data, SOC Professor Aram Sinnreich and his coauthor Jesse Gilbert explore the many unpredictable, and often surprising, ways in which data surveillance, AI, and the constant presence of algorithms impact our culture and society in the age of global networks. "Our Chance to Play" A Conversation on Race and Gaming
Saturday, April 27 10:00am. - 2:00pm 

Please join us for a conversation with Dr. Steven Dashiell (Research Affiliate in Residence, SOC), Dr. Benjamin Stokes (Associate Professor, SOC), and Dr. Andy Phelps (Professor, SOC). “Our Chance to Play" is a multi-university gathering on the topic of Gaming and Race, Representation, Design, and Building Community. Speakers are drawn from across the DMV and beyond. A keynote on the state of the field will precede the lunch. It will be a hybrid event, primarily in person at the AU Game Center with some portions streamed live on Zoom. The in-person event is free, and includes regional networking over your initiatives, a chance to connect with the speakers, tours of the Game Center labs, and more.
