Eco-Comedy Video Competition

SOC CEF Eco-comedy contest

Eco-Comedy Video Competition

Sponsored by the Center for Environmental Filmmaking, Friends of the Earth, Mill Reef Productions, and EcoSense.

This year's winner has been chosen!

We received 75 entries to the second annual eco-comedy competition, and judging each video against the next was an incredibly difficult task.

Congratulations to all our finalists (see below), and a very special congratulations to our $1000 winner, Jordan Ballantine, for Green My House!

All video submissions are now available for you to enjoy on YouTube.

2010 Eco-Comedy Finalists

Competition Guidelines

The contest is open to anyone who prepares a short, funny video for YouTube which communicates a clear message that strongly motivates a specific behavior change (for example, driving a fuel efficient car, turning down thermostats, or donating to a conservation cause).

Submissions must:

  • Be humorous!
  • Address a critical environmental issue
  • Be an original production
  • Reach a broad audience beyond just environmentalists
  • Be less than 4 minutes

There will be six judges representing the Center for Environmental Filmmaking, Friends of the Earth, the US Environmental Protection Agency, Mill Reef Productions, and EcoSense. The decision of the judges is final. Awards are based on overall merit of the entries. Judges reserve the right not to grant an award. The organizations listed above reserve the right to post submissions on their websites.

Submissions are due by March 1, 2010.

In order to submit a video, visit www.youtube.com/ecocomedy

Click the "Submit Your Video" link. A new page will open.

Click the link that reads "video responses" and then click the link underneath that one which reads "post a video response."

Follow the YouTube instructions to post your submission as a video response to the "$1,000 Prize!" video.

We look forward to watching your videos and awarding the winner $1,000!  Good luck!

The winner will be announced and shown at American University on Tuesday, March 23 at the DC Environmental Film Festival. The creator will receive a $1,000 award. In the event of a tie, the monetary prize will be split between the winners equally.
