The Doctor of Philosophy program in Communication offers an interdisciplinary curriculum focused on the intersections of media, technology, and democracy. It is designed for scholars who are seeking to understand how communication and technology interact with democratic life and participation in an open society. Our professors and students produce scholarship that has a real-world connection and impact. Learning and using quantitative and qualitative approaches, our students ask questions that range from the use of social media in revolutions to the construction of identity to the implications of policies and design on participatory culture. The accelerated structure of the program enables students to complete their degrees in three years.
