Sophia Cope is an adjunct professor of Communication Law. She works full-time as Director of Government Affairs and Legislative Counsel for the Newspaper Association of America where she is responsible for all federal legislative and regulatory issues related to the First Amendment, open government/freedom of information, telecommunications, privacy, intellectual property/copyright, and Internet/digital media. Prior to joining NAA, Ms. Cope worked at the Center for Democracy & Technology on legal and policy issues related to civil liberties and technology. Prior to CDT, she worked at the First Amendment Project litigating free speech-related cases. Ms. Cope graduated from Santa Clara University and University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She was born and raised in San Diego.
