Welcome to SOC

Welcome new School of Communication students! Professors, staff, and SOC Ambassador Peer Mentors are excited to meet you and help you as you make a successful transition to American University and the School of Communication. There are many ways that you will be supported during this transition, some of which are explained below.

Eagle Summit New Student Orientation
We encourage all students to attend Eagle Summit Orientation for new students, either during the summer months or during Welcome Week (the week prior to the start of classes). Attending Eagle Summit Orientation allows you to get all the information you need to make a successful transition to AU. SOC offers specific academic sessions just for you and your family members, so make sure to check it out. Learn more about Eagle Summit Orientation, including how to register, on the Office of Orientation, Transition & Retention website.
