Key MPA Grad Participates in 2014 Commencement Platform Party

Key Executive Leadership Programs

Elizabeth Guzman (Key MPA 44/'13) was recently selected to serve in the platform party for the 2014 American University, School of Public Affairs commencement. As a member of the platform party, Elizabeth will serve as a flag bearer and represent the student body.

"It has been a rewarding experience! I am originally from Peru and have been living in the United States for 15 years. I never imagined I would receive such an honor," shared Elizabeth. "I would like to thank American University and the Key Executive MPA Program for the program’s flexibility which allows working mothers, like myself, to achieve their dreams. I lost my father while I was in the program; and the teachers were very supportive and understanding about the situation. I was able to make up classes and assignments, attend classes via Skype, etc. to graduate on time. Also, for the opportunity. I was able to participate in the Politics, Policy and Public Administration class in Brussels. What a great experience! We met with executives of the European Union, the US Ambassador in Brussels, and the US Ambassador in NATO as representatives of the American government. This was a one time life experience! Thank you very much AU."

The 2014 Commencement Speak for the School of Public Affairs is Gwen Ifill, moderator and managing editor of the Washington Week and co-anchor and managing editor of the PBS NewsHour.
