American University's shuttle services provide students, faculty, staff, and guests with a convenient means of traveling between main campus, the Washington College of Law, and the Tenleytown Metro station.
American University is evaluating the campus shuttle services and needs your input! Physically connecting the campus is a critical component of university operations. As the AU population continues to shift between Main Campus, Washington College of Law/Tenley, East Campus and the Spring Valley Building, it is essential that shuttle service be evaluated and adjusted to meet changing demand. To this end, we have hired transportation planners Nelson\Nygaard to evaluate the effectiveness of our current shuttle system in meeting mobility needs and to identify opportunities to improve service. Study objectives include:
Evaluate ridership and shuttle routes operating within and between Main Campus, East Campus, Washington College of Law Tenley Campus, and the Tenleytown/Au Metro station.
Determine if the shuttle routes serve individuals to and from the needed locations as quickly and economically as possible.
Determine if the shuttles provide the appropriate level of service at the appropriate times.
Identify innovative strategies to accommodate student, staff, and faculty transportation demands while maintaining efficient shuttle operations.
In March 2016, Nelson\Nygaard conducted town hall meetings and tabled on campus to supplement the technical analysis being provided by AU staff. Thank you for your feedback on specific transit needs, concerns and priorities, and level of satisfaction with existing services. There will be an update to the AU Community in Summer 2016. If you wish to provide additional feedback, e-mail email@example.com.

Running on Biodiesel
AU's shuttle buses and other diesel-powered equipment are fueled
using a B20 biodiesel blend (20% biofuel, 80% diesel). Biodiesel helps
the university save emissions, money, and time spent refueling as the
biodiesel tank is right on campus.
We operate three different routes: Red, White, and Blue. For complete schedules and routes, click our links below.
Blue Route (Main Campus-Metro) - Tenleytown Metro Station - Tenley Town Shuttle Stop Location Has Moved
Beginning Saturday, June 7, the American University Blue Line Shuttle bus stop at the Tenley Town Metro station will be relocated about 75 feet north of its current location at the corner of 40th and Albemarle Streets. This move will alleviate the current pedestrian and Metro bus congestion that often occurs at peak ridership periods throughout the day.
