Online Learning | Technical Requirements

The Online Learning courses use technology created by Blackboard, Inc., the leading provider of Internet infrastructure software for online education. The minimum technical specifications needed to participate in an Online Learning course are listed below. Student identity verification requires you to use your student ID and password in order to access the courses. Your Online Learning experience may be enhanced with more up-to-date hardware and software. Some courses may have additional hardware and/or software requirements. Please refer to the course descriptions for this information.

Minimum Hardware and Software Requirements



Windows Vista, or Windows 7 or 8

Mac OSX 10.6, 10.7, 10.8, or 10.9



Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster.

RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)

Free hard disk space: 16 GB.

Sound card and speakers




Adobe Acrobat Reader

Adobe Flash Player


Microsoft Word

Microsoft Excel

Microsoft PowerPoint

Virus Protection




Mozilla Firefox is recommended


Chrome, Safari 4+
Internet Explorer 8 or 9 (in Compatibility mode)




Broadband is recommended. (DSL, Cable Modem, FIOS, etc.)




Using your AU-sponsored Gmail account is recommended.

(If you prefer to use another account, you will need to configure your AU account to forward your mail.)
