After reviewing the report from the Dean of Academic Affairs and Senior Vice Provost Search Committee, I am pleased to announce that Professor Mary L. Clark has been selected as the Dean of Academic Affairs and Senior Vice Provost ("DAA").
Mary has served for nine months as the Interim DAA and has received accolades from the AU community during this time period. She holds a faculty appointment in the AU Washington College of Law (WCL), where she began her career in 2002. In 2009, she was named WCL Teacher of the Year and was appointed to full professor in 2012. Her administrative experience at WCL has included appointments as Acting Director of the Law and Government Program, Director of the SJD (Doctoral) Program, and Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs. The combination of her administrative experience, faculty appointment, and legal background make Mary a particularly strong candidate for the position.
Mary received her undergraduate degree at Bryn Mawr College and currently serves as a member of Bryn Mawr's Board of Trustees. She received her JD from Harvard Law School.
I want to thank the candidates who considered this opportunity and were willing to be of service to the university. I am especially thankful to the Search Committee Chair, Professor Candice Nelson, and the members of the committee, named below, for all their work:
Professor Iris Krasnow
Professor Billie Jo Kaufman
Professor Alex Hodges
Professor Sheila Bedford
Professor John Douglas
Professor Shalini Venturelli
Professor Andrea Pearson
Dean Peter Starr
Please join me in welcoming Mary L. Clark to the permanent position of Dean of Academic Affairs and Senior Vice Provost at American University.
