It is my pleasure to announce the development and launch of International Relations Online (IRonline), American University’s first fully web-based MA in international relations in the School of International Service (SIS). The first classes for this global online program will begin in May 2013 and the application process begins today.
IRonline reflects AU’s Strategic Plan goal to Bring the World to AU and AU to the World, in ways unimagined just a few years ago. To offer the most advanced web-based technology available, AU has partnered with 2U, Inc., a leader in educational technology that works with top universities to develop online degree programs. Students will learn in an intimate, interactive online environment, which also features a familiar social networking platform.
IRonline is truly pioneering in that no other university of AU’s quality is currently offering a two-year online MA in international relations. IRonline students will meet the same academic requirements and selective admissions criteria as students attending on-campus programs.
The program draws from multiple SIS program specialties and provides students with a strong grounding in the field of international relations, the professional skills to succeed, and access to AU’s career counseling and alumni network. IRonline students will also gain specialized knowledge by selecting a focus of study in either Sustainable International Development or Global Security and Conflict Resolution.
Join me in congratulating SIS Dean James Goldgeier, Associate Dean Leeanne Dunsmore, Associate Professor and Director of the MA in International Relations Stephen Silvia, and the entire SIS team. I am also most appreciative of the University Registrar’s office, Student Accounts, Financial Aid, University Library, Campus Life, and the Office of Information Technology for generously contributing time and expertise to the development and implementation of this program.
