Marcia Howard Adjunct Instructor Department of Performing Arts

Bio
Marcia Howard has been assistant director and performing company member with Coyaba Dance Theater since 1997, under the direction of Sylvia Soumah. She is also the education coordinator of Coyaba Academy – Coyaba’s youth program. For over 17 years at The Dance Place she teaches adult students West African dance. In 2000, she traveled to Dakar, Senegal to further her studies in traditional dance and culture with Bouly Sonko, Director of Les Ballet du Senegal and in 2008, to study with The Forest Dance Company. At Imagination Stage (Bethesda, MD), she is the Senior Faculty of Dance Education. Since 2004, at American University, she teaches African Dance, as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Performing Arts. Ms. Howard has performed nationally and internationally with Coyaba Dance Theater. Highlights include Seoul, Korea, Dance Africa Chicago, for Michael Jackson at the Ethiopian Embassy in Washington, DC and for Oprah Winfrey at Uncommon Heights in Washington, DC.  Ms. Howard facilitates residencies and workshops for children and adults of all abilities.
