WHAT: Second Annual Food Tank Summit

WHEN: April 20-21, 2016, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Background: Food Tank, a global non-profit organization, in partnership with American University’s School of International Service, is bringing together leaders from all sectors of the food industry to discuss innovative nutrition, health, and agricultural policies that can have a significant impact in the global fight against hunger, obesity, poverty, and environmental degradation. Food Tank shares stories of hope and success in agriculture, and helps individuals and organizations to advocate for changes in the way we grow and consume our food.

During the two-day event representatives of the business community, non-profit and farmers’ organizations, policy makers, funders, and chefs will gather to share their ideas on how to create a food system that is environmentally, economically, and socially sustainable.

Speakers this year include U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack; Jeff Dunn, President, Campbell Fresh Division; Rep. Mike Conaway, (R-TX), Chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture; Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-ME); and writer and activist Raj Patel.

Last year’s Food Tank Summit brought together 400 attendees from more than 25 states and more than 15,000 online, real-time participants from more than 125 countries. This year, Food Tank is quadrupling its reach by hosting additional summits in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Chicago, IL, Sacramento, CA, and New Orleans, LA.

The event will be livestreamed and available on the Food Tank website.
