Background:
The disruptive presidency of Donald Trump is only three weeks old, but the shape and effects of his foreign policy already are causing unprecedented anger and divisiveness in Congress while the world awaits further shocks in trade, security, and governance.

How will the so-called bromance between President Trump and Vladimir Putin play out? How will the tenor of relations between Trump’s team and an already-fracturing European Union evolve? These and many other critical issues will be discussed during this hour-long telephone briefing offered by a team of distinguished international experts at American University.

You will hear from:

James Goldgeier, dean of the School of International Service, served on the staff of the National Security Council and at the State Department during the Clinton administration. Prof. Goldgeier is the author of a Council on Foreign Relations Special Report on The Future of NATO and Power and Purpose: U.S. Policy toward Russia after the Cold War. His areas of expertise include U.S. national security policy, U.S.-Europe-Russia relations, and NATO. Prof. Goldgeier will moderate the discussion.

Gordon Adams, professor of U.S. Foreign Policy at the School of International Service, has published widely on defense and national security policy, the defense policy process, and national security budgets. He is often sought by national and international media outlets to comment on U.S. national security policy.

Nora Bensahel, distinguished scholar-in-residence in the School of International Service, is a widely published expert on issues related to national security, defense, and foreign policy.

Michelle Egan, Jean Monnet Professor in the School of International Service and Global Europe Fellow at the Wilson Center, is an expert on U.S-European foreign policy and EU affairs, trade, and transatlantic relations.

Jordan Tama, assistant professor in the School of International Service, is an expert on the congressional bipartisanship and foreign policy and is currently working on a book “Bipartisanship in a Polarized Age: When Democrats and Republicans Cooperate on U.S. Foreign Policy”. He also specializes in foreign policy and national security strategy; terrorism; the intelligence community; and the presidency and U.S. Congress.”
