IER in Action

IER students are engaged world citizens who want to make a positive difference in the global economic market through applied research and policy analysis. Our renowned scholar-practitioner faculty members engage in relevant policy work for governments, international organizations, and the private sector; they serve as role models for students. Our practicum option allows students to gain real-world experience as part of a team project for a multinational client.

Get Involved

A look at some of the ways you can get involved during your time on campus.

Council for International Economic Relations

The Council for International Economic Relations (CIER) works to promote a dialogue between students, staff, and faculty at American University on topics of interest in the fields of development, economics, finance, trade, international business, and international affairs. Membership is open to all past and present students at the School of International Service. For more information, visit the CIER Facebook group or email cier@american.edu.

Graduate Student Council

The SIS Graduate Student Council (GSC) is committed to providing professional development, advocating for graduate students, and building a school-wide community. GSC provides opportunities to graduate students to plan and participate in social and professional development events, serve on school committees, advocate for themselves and their peers, and generally have their voices heard in the SIS administration. With a team of senators representing the various programs at the School of International Service and a dedicated Executive Council, the GSC strives to be a leader both inside and outside American University.
