Clean Air for All Symposium

To mark the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Clean Air Act and the 30th Anniversary of the Clean Air Act Amendments, American University’s Center for Environmental Policy, Center for Environmental Filmmaking and the American Lung Association hosted the half day online symposium Clean Air for All: 50 Years of the Clean Air Act

Premiere Panel Discussion

On June 18, 2020, the Center for Environmental Filmmaking held a panel discussion with director Maggie Burnette Stogner and policy experts, including Mustafa Santiago Ali (VP of Environmental Justice, National Wildlife Federation), Bill Reily (former EPA Administorato), Beth Gardiner (author of "Choked"), and Shashawnda Campbell (Free Your Voice, Baltimore). A Conversation with Mary Nichols

On October 14, 2020, the Center for Environmental Policy, the American Lung Association and the Center for Environmental Filmmaking hosted a conversation with Mary Nichols. In this discussion with Center Director Dan Fiorino, Mary Nichols shares the progress she has seen in California's air quality over her 45+ year career and the challenges that remain. As California's top air regulator, she is a leader in air quality and climate issues.

On August 19, 2020 the School of Public Affairs at American University, the American Lung Association and the Center for Environmental Policy hosted a screening of Unbreathable and a panel discussion. Watch this virtual panel of climate and healthy air activists that address their critical role in advocating for environmental justice, clean air, and a livable climate - all of which are essential for healthy communities. 

Air Quality and COVID-19: Connections, Health Impacts, and Racial Disparities

On July 15, 2020, the Center for Environmental Policy and the American Lung Association hosted  a panel discussion focused on recent research suggests that individuals who have faced long-term exposure to fine particulate matter (PM 2.5) and underlying health conditions face higher rates of COVID-19 illness and mortality. Research has also shown that people of color, particularly African Americans, face greater than average risks from the health impacts of both air pollution and COVID-19. On September 30, 2020, HEAL Utah, the American Lung Association and the Center for Environmental Filmmaking hosted a film screening and panel discussion focused on Utah-related air pollution issues and broadly how the Clean Air Act can support local officials in the fight for healthy air.
