David Shope Adjunct Professorial Lecturer Philosophy and Religion

Bio
David Shope received his PhD in Philosophy from the University of California, Riverside and recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the NIH Department of Bioethics. Though he has primarily specialized in bioethics and the philosophy of disability (with a focus on autism), he also has interests in the philosophy of agency, formal logic, Kierkegaard, and 20th Century French philosophy. More recently, he has been expanding his eclectic philosophical interests by exploring care ethics and Confucian ethics. As an instructor at UC Riverside, David taught for both the philosophy department and the Writing Across the Curriculum program. His teaching focuses on encouraging students to foster a growth mindset, primarily using specifications grading.
