Dr. Tiffany Monique Quash is a research methodologist at American University and member of Diversity in Aquatics, an organization dedicated to promotion of water safety and advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in aquatics. Dr. Quash holds a Ph.D. in leisure behavior from Indiana University’s School of Public Health, where she completed her doctoral dissertation on the experiences of Black womyn collegiate swimmers from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and primary white institutions.  

Dr. Quash is available to discuss topics including the history of swimming and experiences of Blacks and African Americans; equity issues and disparities between Black and white swimmers; barriers in swimming that underrepresented groups face; water safety education; and public health issues surrounding water safety.

In 2019, Dr. Quash delivered a TEDx talk discussing the importance of challenging the narrative that Black people cannot swim and emphasizing that “learning to swim is a human right.”
