Distinguished AU Alums Recognized as Changemakers

What:

Each year, the American University Alumni Board and the Office of Alumni Relations recognize outstanding leaders for their contributions to society. This year, AU will honor six distinguished alumni for their tremendous dedication and commitment to change in foreign affairs, politics, business, education, public health, and economics. The 2023 awardees will be honored at the Washington College of Law.

The Alumni Awards will be presented to:  

Global Alumni Leader Award 

The Global Alumni Leader Award honors alumni whose substantial impacts on society exemplify AU’s tradition of service and leadership in the context of a global community.  

His Excellency Brigadier (Rtd.) Dr. Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, SIS/BA ’99, SIS/MIS ’01  

Baroness of Knightsbridge Dr. Dambisa Moyo, CAS/BS ’91, Kogod/MBA ’92, Hon. DHL ’22 

Neil Kerwin Alumni Achievement Award 

Renamed in 2016 to commemorate the successes of AU’s first alumni president, the Neil Kerwin Alumni Achievement Award recognizes alumni who distinguish themselves through their professional accomplishments.

Alumni Recognition Award 

The Alumni Recognition Award recognizes alumni who inspire the world around them through service to the community or a philanthropic mission.

Alumni Eagle Award 

The Alumni Eagle Award recognizes alumni who have rendered outstanding service to the university and/or the Alumni Association.  

Amy Lampert, SOC/BA ’94, Vice President and COO, Lampe, LP 

Rising Star Award 

The Rising Star Award recognizes recent alumni (who received their degree within the last 10 years) who are already making significant contributions to greater society through professional or philanthropic work.
