Bio
Erica Fortwengler has over 15 years of experience in communications and marketing, specializing in developing and executing comprehensive and engaging digital marketing strategies and campaigns.

Erica joins the American University from The Washington Ballet, where she led the marketing department as the Director of Digital Marketing and Communications. By creating a digital-first department, she successfully led the ballet company of the nation’s capital through a digital revolution, which set the stage for the organization to thrive through the pandemic.

Prior to joining The Washington Ballet, she directed all communications functions for The Art League, the largest visual arts non-profit of its kind in the Washington, DC, region. As the Director of Communications and Marketing, she built the department from the ground up, created an online presence for the organization, and successfully expanded the revenue, audience, and reach of the organization. Erica presented at the National Arts Marketing Project Conference in 2015 in Salt Lake City and at Capacity Interactive’s Digital Marketing Bootcamp for the Arts in 2016 in New York City on The Art League's evolution and success in the digital space.
