CeDiploma Overview

American University offers a certified electronic diploma that serves as an official, portable and verifiable electronic version of your accomplishment that can be shared for a lifetime! After downloading, you can send the PDF as proof of graduation to anyone requesting it. The CeDiploma can be validated in two ways:

Your CeDiploma contains a 12-digit Certified Electronic Document Identifier (CeDiD) which can be entered on AU’s CeDiploma Validation page by anyone you provide the CeDiploma to as proof of graduation.
Your CeDiploma also contains a digital signature in the form of a blue ribbon across the top of the document to indicate its authenticity (requires being viewed through Adobe Reader or Acrobat versions 9.0 or higher).

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I access my CeDiploma?

To download the CeDiploma, log into the myAU Portal (myau.american.edu) and click the “Download CeDiploma” link in the “Academics” menu on the left-hand side of the page. If you no longer have access to the portal, please email helpdesk@american.edu who can assist you with re-activating your account.

I have a hold on my record: can I receive my CeDiploma?

Requests from current or former students with unmet obligations to the University (e.g., holds) cannot be honored. For information on how to resolve a hold on your account, please contact AU Central.

Does the CeDiploma Need an Apostille?

An Apostille is neither required nor necessary. Documents can be validated via the validation page to provide absolute confidence in the credential's authenticity. Furthermore, the document is only valid in its PDF form, so we are unable to notarize printouts of the CeDiploma.

Can I obtain an electronic copy of my diploma if I graduated prior to Spring 2016?

Currently, CeDiplomas are only available for American University Spring 2016 graduates and forward.
