Early Literacy Intervention Resources

We are dedicated to providing teachers with access to information about effective instructional practices. Students in the EdD in Educational Policy and Leadership whose concentration is early literacy intervention created these videos to model instructional practices aligned to the science of reading research base. In these vidoes, our students model the practices with their own students and describe how and when to use the strategy.

Phonemic Awareness: Articulation of Similar Phonemes

5:19

This video demonstrates how to address student confusion when articulating similar phonemes using multisensory techniques.

Phonemic Awareness: Consonant Blends

Phonemic Awareness: Segmenting Words with Phonemes

4:50

Students learning to segment words may benefit from additional instruction when they are having difficulty. This video demonstrates how to teach students to segment using manipulatives.

Phonemic Awareness: Uneven Skills and Lack of Automaticity

5:30

In this clip, the teacher demonstrates how to use Elkonin boxes to assist students as they work to blend words with three phonemes. This lesson is appropriate for students that are able to isolate at least two phonemes.

Spelling: Spelling Irregular Words
