You are here: American University Student Affairs Update on COVID testing machines

American University letterhead

December 15, 2023

Dear AU community,

We hope that you are staying well. Today, we wanted to share with you an important upcoming change to the COVID test vending machines that have been on campus since Fall 2022. Since the start of the pandemic, the university has provided over 125,000 tests, free of charge, to the community.

Our third-party vendor, Shield T-3, has decided to discontinue their COVID test vending machine operations at university campuses across the country, which includes AU. On December 18, the machines, which have been dispensing antigen COVID tests across campus, will be removed from all university buildings.

Beginning Monday, December 18 and until May 10, we will continue to provide free COVID tests to our community. Until that time, antigen tests will be available for pick-up during business hours at the following locations Monday-Friday:

  • Main Campus – Student Health Center, McCabe Hall: 8am-5pm
  • Washington College of Law – Information Desk, Warren Building: 8:30am-5pm
  • 4401 Connecticut Avenue - WAMU Reception Desk: 9am-2pm

For any questions, please contact covidhealth@american.edu. We wish you a wonderful holiday season and a restful break.

Sincerely,

Raymond Ou
Vice President of Student Affairs
