Sybil E. Gohari, PhD, is an art historian specializing in 20th century art of the United States, with a particular focus on the correlation of race and gender to the critical, market and academic success of artists. Her dissertation, Through the Looking Glass: Race and Gender in the Reception of Paintings by Helen Frankenthaler, Norman Lewis, Alma Thomas, and Mark Tobey, analyzes the artists’ critical, academic, and market reception.
