Looking for Help?  Hire a Student from Quad Jobs

Quad Jobs

Are you looking for someone to walk your dog, take care of yardwork, run errands, or for any other part-time work? American University now partners with QuadJobs – the country’s largest marketplace of flexible, part-time jobs for college students – to help you reach qualified, vetted college or graduate students, including AU students, for hire in your area.

When you post a job on the QuadJobs site, you will be notified whenever a student applies. You will be able to view the student’s profile showing their work experience, skills, and reviews from past employers to help you hire with confidence. Once the job for which you have hired them is completed, you will have the opportunity to review the student’s work. If you give a 4.0 rating, you then will be able to reach the same student for future jobs.

Popular jobs among the student pool in QuadJobs also include babysitting, web design, catering/party staff, tutoring, music lessons, moving labor/junk removal, painting, computers/tech help, office work, and organizing.

Ninety-eight percent of jobs receive multiple applications within two hours of posting.

Sign-up for QuadJobs costs $35 a year for unlimited postings, or $7 for your each post. For more information, visit: https://quadjobs.com/employer/invite/home

Films Across Borders: Stories in a Changing World Featuring Cooked: Survival By Zip Code

Cooked: Survival By Zip Code

The Films Across Borders film festival, co-presented by American University, invites you to join in for a live virtual conversation with filmmaker Judith Helfand about her film Cooked: Survival By Zip Code on November 4 at 6 p.m. The conversation will be moderated by Executive Director of The Center for Environmental Filmmaking and SOC Professor Maggie Burnette Stogner.

The film is an award-winning feature documentary about extreme heat, the politics of disaster, and survival by Zip Code. In July 1995, a heat wave overtook Chicago as high humidity and a layer of heat-retaining pollution drove the heat index up to more than 126 degrees. City roads buckled, rails warped, electric grids failed, thousands became ill, and people died by the hundreds. Peabody award-winning filmmaker Judith Helfand explores this drama that, when peeled away, reveals the less newsworthy but long-term crisis of pernicious poverty, economic, and social isolation and racism.

Films Across Borders, a showcase of critically acclaimed films, documentaries, and shorts from around the world, returns for a seventh year this fall. The theme for 2021 focuses on Stories in a Changing World. The film festival is a partnership with more than 20 embassies, cultural organizations, arts institutions, and environmental groups.

Launched in 2014, Films Across Borders raises awareness about highly relevant themes by combining international films and panel discussions with filmmakers and special guests.

Community Liaison Committee Meets December 7

American University’s Community Liaison Committee (CLC) will hold a quarterly meeting on Tuesday, December 7. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom.

To register for the meeting, visit the registration page.  Prior to the meeting, each registrant will receive an email and a calendar invite from Justice & Sustainability Associates with information on how to access the meetings.

The CLC was established to foster positive relations and to maintain regular communication between the university and its neighbors. As specified in the D.C. Zoning Commission Order for AU’s 10-year Campus Plan, the CLC comprises individuals from neighboring community organizations and representatives from the university.

Additional information on the CLC, including meeting agendas and minutes can be found at the CLC website
