Dear Colleagues,  

It’s that time of year when we prepare for our annual New Student Move-In. Once again, all hands are needed to help make the university’s newest Eagles’ transition to AU a smooth one.

We invite you to volunteer to help Auxiliary Services at the One Card Office during the Welcome Week activities from Sunday, August 20 through Sunday, August 27. In anticipation of all the new students and new faculty and staff visiting the One Card Office, we need your help to wrangle lines, check IDs, distribute One Cards, direct lost parents, and explain “hot-spotting,” while welcoming our new community members with a big AU smile.

Volunteers will need to commit half days (four-hour shifts) during Welcome Week. Shifts usually will be 8 a.m. – 12 p.m., 12 – 4 p.m., or 2 – 6 p.m. All you need is a welcoming smile, your knowledge of AU, and basic problem-solving skills.

If you are interested in volunteering, please reply by email to Precious A. Smith, Associate Director of Auxiliary Services (pasmith@american.edu), with your preferred dates and whether mornings or evenings are best. If you can serve multiple shifts, your help will be appreciated greatly. Auxiliary will contact you to 1) confirm receipt of your preferences (we cannot promise, but we will try); 2) send you a schedule once it is created; and 3) perform an orientation for each of the roles that you may be asked to fulfill.
