Safety Training

American University uses a learning management system called the Health and Safety Institute (HSI) to train our community on safety practices. HSI supports every level of critical workforce development, with online courses for safety, compliance, soft-skills, emergency care, and craft trades. We offer an excellent catalog of courses in the following areas: Occupational Safety & Health, Human Resources, Higher Education, Safety Overviews, Environmental Management, and Health Care.

Click “Dashboard” on the left-hand navigation panel and choose from your assigned trainings to be completed list.

Note: If you do not see any training courses on your dashboard page contact EH&S.

Click the “Transcript” tab on the top center of the page to see courses completed and download diplomas.

Once training is completed students, faculty, and staff whose training completion is tied to card access to specific spaces must notify their supervisor to submit an Access ticket at access@american.edu. The Access team will verify training completion and deny requests for individuals who have incomplete training.

Note: For Students, Faculty, and Staff in Hall of Science please notify Bernadette Laubach to request card access.

HSI has the following system requirements to operate successfully:

  1. Use a trusted browser. The system recommends using Google Chrome and Firefox.
  2. For more support click the “question mark" icon on the top right of the page.

Always check your Junk folder if you are missing emails from HSI.
