Ceiling Power Brackets

Retractable ceiling extension cord

The Design and Build Lab's tables and chairs are meant to be easy to move, and we frequently rearrange the room. Having the power on the ground was obnoxious, presented a constant tripping hazard, and destroyed electrical cables. It took us over a year and a half to get power in the ceiling, but this was the final step.

Because the pipes on the ceiling are round, having a rectangular block that interfaced with them was not optimal. Alex, one of our Creative and Technical Specialists, designed and 3D printed a prototype bracket, but it required many U-bolts in uncomfortable places to be secure.

The old ceiling bracket required too many u-bolts to secure

We then designed a second version that replaced the default bracket: two interlocking blocks, each with holes for a U-bolt. Now we have a secure, safe, and movable power supply that hangs from the ceiling.
